Muscular Dystrophy UK

A boy is pushing another boy in a wheelchair along a path. It's a sunny day, and they are passing a garden wall next to a road.

Muscular dystrophy isn’t a singular illness; it’s an umbrella term for more than 60 different muscle wasting and weakening conditions. Each has its own particular symptoms, treatments and outcomes. All are life-changing experiences for people to come to terms with.

Muscular Dystrophy UK is a remarkable charity. It combines expert advice and support, cutting-edge scientific research, and incredible community activities for over 110,000 people living with muscular dystrophy.

Each and every one of them – and their families and carers – needs specialist information they can rely on. So it was a privilege to be asked to help write their new website copy.

Working as part of a team including the talented Kirsty Marrins, Rich wrote the pages for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, several fundraising strands, leadership, trustees, communities and a range of medical conditions.

In doing so, we learned a huge amount about experiences of muscular dystrophy, the incredibly emotional journeys families go on, and the remarkable strength and resilience of people facing degenerative illnesses.

Every writing project is a chance to inhabit a different world, just for a while. Writing for Muscular Dystrophy UK was one that stayed with us for a long time afterwards.
